Episode takeaways you don’t want to miss:

Whether you have courses, coaching programs, templates, downloads, resources, guides, anything that provides a way that you can serve your audience without having to be physically present, digital products are an incredible resource for you to get into your audience's hands after you speak. And in a way that gets them results fast, without burning out. So if you don't already have digital products in place, you should start considering them.

Let’s expand the definition of “speaking”

Too often, speaking is seen as this benchmark goal that we want to check off and say we did it. But speaking is not a benchmark, it’s a skill set that as a business owner, you need to master.

When we say “Speaking”, we are really referring to anytime you're showing up to deliver inspiration or information to your audience, that is going to help them take another step in their life or business and position you as the go-to person to help them either solve a problem or need, or to reach their next step. Sure, this could be done on a stage. And it could also be virtual events, live streams, podcast interviews, live stream shows, showing up on Instagram stories, creating IGTVs, YouTube videos.

We've been told we need to get on MORE stages but that's not really true. You need to get on the right stages... and sometimes those are not traditional stages at all.

Get clear on WHY you want to speak

There are only three reasons as a business owner that you should be speaking. Sure, there will be times when there's overlap, but we should always have a main focus for each opportunity:

  1. To build authority, increase our influence, to really get that brand recognition that we are desiring to be the go-to thought leader in our niche. This type of speaking is focused on building credibility. If your goal is to scale your digital products, this is the type of speaking you want to do. Maybe when you're in creation mode, working on that product; it's not ready for sale but you really want to build that launch runway and be considered the go-to expert on your topic. .

  2. To get conversions - Once that product is made and you're ready to get it into your audience's hands, that’s when you move into more strategic speaking. When your main goal is to get conversions. Whether that's new clients, new email subscribers, new followers or new sales, this type of speaking is laser-focused on helping your audience overcome their objections, see what's possible for them, and start taking steps from where they are to where they want to be.

  3. To build a revenue stream - this is where you're getting paid up front to deliver an incredible presentation that is going to deliver a transformation. This one doesn’t apply to most of us.

So get clear on WHY you want to speak because this is where most people get it wrong. They speak with a strategy that doesn't match their expectations. >> Take this quiz to figure out your best strategy

4 Steps to scale your digital products with speaking

1. Identify the ONE product you want to sell.

2. Identify the ideal audience for your offer. This is the only audience you should be getting in front of. Ask yourself whenever you're considering a speaking opportunity: is my ideal client for this offer going to be in the audience? If they're not, it might not be a great opportunity for you. So once you’ve identified the one product you want to sell & who your ideal customer is for that product, seek out opportunities where your ideal client for that offer will be in the audience.

3. Craft your talk to convert. Make sure that your talk is going to be exactly what your audience needs to hear and that your offer is going to be the natural next step for them.  >> Learn How to Craft a Talk that Converts, Consistently

4. Look to the people who you are already working with, find out where they're spending their time, and seek out those stages for sharing your message. Specifically, ask them what podcasts they are listening to right now. Because if they're listening to that podcast, then there are other people just like them who would also be your ideal clients, also listening to that podcast. And that’s the show that you want to reach out to to get on to share your story, your product and help more people just like your existing clients.
